The system (2) has a mobile X-ray apparatus (4) provided with a base support (8) and an X-ray source (12) movable relative to the support. A mobile X-ray detector (6) is positioned independent of the apparatus. A position sensor (18) e.g. angle or length transmitter, determines a relative position of the source and the support. The detector in a defined zero position (22) of the support is insertable into a retainer (20). An inertial sensor (30) e.g. acceleration sensor, attached to the detector measures spatial position alterations (24a-24c) outgoing from the zero position.
