PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time until hot water comes out following completion of flowing out of cold water within piping after a faucet (hot-water tap) is turned on at start of hot water supply, the time taking a long time due to long piping for hot water supply. SOLUTION: This water heater includes: a hot water storage tank 1 storing hot water; a heating means 2 heating the hot water within the hot water storage tank 1; a hot water supply pipe 6 supplying the hot water within the hot water storage tank 1; a hot water supply pressure pump 16 provided in the middle of the hot water supply pipe 6 and pressurizing and supplying hot water for supply; and the hot-water tap provided at a terminal of the hot water supply pipe 6. The water heater further includes a hot water supply pressure pump control means 30 controlling the rotational frequency of the hot water supply pressure pump 16. For a predetermined time at start of hot water supply operation from the hot-water tap, the hot water supply pressure pump control means 30 performs operation at the rotational frequency of the hot water supply pressure pump 16 higher than that during normal hot water supply.
