PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance operational reliability of a locking mechanism for an image blur correction unit. SOLUTION: The optical apparatus includes: a first actuator 409 configured to shift an optical unit 410; the locking mechanism 403 which can operate in a locking state to restrict the shift of the optical unit and in an unlocking state to release the restriction; a second actuator 12 configured to operate the locking mechanism; a state detector 404 configured to detect the state of the locking mechanism; and a controller 203 configured to drive the second actuator after driving the first actuator so that the optical unit is shifted to the target position. The controller is configured to, when determining that the locking mechanism is not in the target state after driving the second actuator so that the locking mechanism is operated to be in the target state (locking/unlocking state), change the target position, drive the first actuator, and then, drive the second actuator again so that the locking mechanism is operated to be in the target state.
