<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively extract estradiol from a pomegranate seed; and to provide an extract thereof, a pharmaceutical composition, food and drink, and cosmetic containing an active ingredient of the extract, and a method for using them. <P>SOLUTION: The pomegranate seed extract contains estradiol extracted from a ground sample obtained by grinding the pomegranate seed. Estradiol may be obtained by extracting a primary solution with an extracting solvent from the ground sample of the pomegranate seed, subjecting the primary solution to vacuum concentration followed by dilution, passing the resulting solution through a separating medium of an alkyl chain chemical bond type, extracting a secondary solution with an extracting solvent, then subjecting the second solution to vacuum concentration, passing the resulting solution through a separating medium of an ion exchange type, and extracting with an organic solvent.
