<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily manufacturable muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The muffler (1) is for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine in, preferably, an automobile. The muffler (1) has two end bottoms (2) mutually separated and facing each other, a closed circumferential jacket (3), at least one muffler insert (4), at least one intake pipe (5), and at least one exhaust pipe (6). At least one of the pipes (5, 6) is extended through a muffler interior (8) via the jacket (3) and fixed to the jacket (3). The pipe (5, 6) extended via the jacket (3) has a conical shaped part (10) in an end positioned in an inner side, and the muffler insert (4) has a fitting conical shaped part (11).
