The method involves manufacturing a physical three dimensional model (5) from a virtual model. A hole (6) for a selected implant is brought into the three dimensional model similar to a treatment of a patient. A position and/or orientation of the hole is detected with respect to the three dimensional model. A drilling template (1) is manufactured with a guide portion (9) for a tooth-medical drilling tool (7) and a form-fit contoured overlay region (10) for a tooth region or a jaw region (3) of the patient based on a data set, where the guide region is determined for reproducing the hole. An independent claim is also included for a drilling template comprising a guide region.
