<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform stable automatic stop and restart by suppressing a variation in actual intake air volume during the automatic stop and restart. <P>SOLUTION: This engine control unit includes: a variable valve mechanism varying the lift of an inlet valve; a throttle valve provided upstream of the inlet valve and varying the opening area of an induction passage; and an automatic stop means automatically stopping the engine when a predetermined stop condition is satisfied. In the engine control unit, by the variable valve mechanism, it is possible to vary to a first induction control state in which the lift of the inlet valve is equal to or smaller than a predetermined amount and the opening of the throttle valve is larger than a predetermined opening and a second induction control state in which the lift of the inlet valve is larger than the predetermined amount and the opening of the throttle valve is equal to or smaller than the predetermined opening. When the predetermined stop condition is satisfied, the engine is automatically stopped (S50) only when the lift of the inlet valve is equal to or smaller than the predetermined amount (S30). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
