PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic analyzer effectively preventing carryover of a specimen or a reagent without extending an analysis cycle period, and also to provide a washing method for dispensing means. SOLUTION: An automatic analyzer 1 optically analyzes the reaction product of a specimen and a reagent, and is equipped with: a specimen dispensing device 5 for dispensing the specimen using a dispensing probe 50 by applying a suction pressure or discharge pressure by a syringe pump through squeeze-out water filled in a pipe connected to the dispensing probe 50; a reading part 23 for acquiring specimen information of the dispensed specimen; a determining part 108a for determining whether the specimen is a designated specimen that requires reinforced washing based on the specimen information acquired by the reading part 23; and a washing controlling part 108b for controlling to increase the pressure in the pipe upon washing the dispensing probe 50 after completion of dispense of the specimen for the final analysis item when the determining part 108a determines that the specimen is a designated specimen.
