PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool having an excellent strength and rich in decoration property such that patterns appear to the edge of a blade. SOLUTION: A clad base material A of a prescribed thickness is formed by laminating stainless steel base materials 1 (1a, 1b...) alternately and rolling them by a hot rolling mill while heating them to make them metallurgically integrated. The clad base material A is forged to form a rugged part U on the surface, and then the whole clad base material A is heated to form a cutting tool substrate B. The rugged surface is ground to form a temporary blade part S' at one end edge part E. Then, etching treatment is performed to the whole surface of the cutting tool substrate B with an acid solution, so that a relatively base stainless steel part exposed on the surface is corroded to generate a hue difference by performing discoloration in each area defined by layer boundary lines L, create spot patterns and Damascus patterns on the surface, form a sharp blade part S by finish-grinding the temporary blade part S', and form the layer boundary lines L to the sharp blade part S.
