PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic probe which is suitable for ultrasound of a high-order harmonic. SOLUTION: A transmission array 10 is formed of a plurality of vibrating elements 12 for transmission each of which transmits ultrasound of a fundamental wave. The plurality of vibrating elements 12 for transmission are arranged in accordance with an arrangement condition corresponding to the fundamental wave. A reception array 20 is formed of a plurality of vibrating elements 22 for reception each of which receives ultrasound of the high-order harmonic. The plurality of vibrating elements 22 for reception are arranged in accordance with an arrangement condition corresponding to the harmonic. There is a difference depending on the order of the high-order harmonic between the arrangement condition corresponding to the fundamental wave and the arrangement condition corresponding to the harmonic. Consequently, an extremely excellent beam profile is acquired in receiving the high-order harmonic by transmitting the fundamental wave. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
