Disclosed are: a solar cell which is produced at a low cost and has high quality; and a process for producing the solar cell. The solar cell has a pn or pin junction structure comprising a first conductive semiconductor and a second conductive semiconductor, and comprises a silicon crystal substrate, and a single-crystalline or multi-crystalline silicon layer so formed as to contact with one main surface of the silicon crystal substrate and formed by a sputtering process.
