The method involves driving a movable part of a textile machine by an electromotor (m) directly or over a mechanical interface, where the movable part of a textile machine is actuated by a position unit (6). An operational parameter (Bist) of the electromotor and/or position unit is measured and evaluated, such that an installation related, motor-referred or motor-wear-referred state quantity is determined. The operational parameter is determined in the position unit that is upstream to the electromotor and in a continuous or fixed predetermined time interval. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling an electromotor (2) a device for executing a method for recognizing an operating mode of a textile machine or a propelled part of a textile machine.
