PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid ejecting apparatus which can discharge bubbles while suppressing consumption of a fluid, and to provide a cleaning method. SOLUTION: The printer 11 includes a fluid ejecting head 24 equipped with multiple nozzles that eject an ink, an ink supply tube 27 which supplies the ink towards a downstream side that becomes the fluid ejecting head 24 side, a valve 81 prepared in the ink supply tube 27, and a pressure application mechanism 29 which swells the ink from the nozzles by pressurizing the ink within the ink supply tube 27 on the downstream side from the valve 81 rendered in a closed valve state.
