PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid ejecting apparatus which can discharge bubbles while suppressing consumption of a fluid, and to provide a cleaning method. SOLUTION: The printer 11 includes a fluid ejecting head 24 equipped with multiple nozzles that eject an ink, an ink supply tube 27 which supplies the ink towards the fluid ejecting head 24 side, and a pressure application mechanism 29 which swells the ink from the nozzles by performing pressurization on the ink within the ink supply tube 27 and also performs decompression while the ink is swollen from the nozzles following the pressurization.
