Disclosed is a loop detection device capable of detecting loop packets and loop flows and entailing only a small processing load. A sorting means (82) sorts, on the basis of first prescribed information contained in packet information, the packets from which information has been extracted by a packet information extraction device; counts, for each said first prescribed information, the number of sorted packets; and specifies, when the counting result has reached or exceeded a first threshold value, that first prescribed information. For the first prescribed information specified by the sorting means (82), a determination means (83) uses second prescribed information contained in the packet information received by the receiving means (81) to determine whether or not the packet containing the first prescribed information specified by the sorting means (82) is a loop packet, or whether the flow specified by said first prescribed information is a loop flow.
