<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic appliance in which the size of information such as an image displayed on a screen can be easily changed with natural operation feelings. <P>SOLUTION: A sensor 18 constructed of, for example, a 3-axial acceleration sensor is built in the vicinity of a display unit 12 which is provided on the body 11 of the portable telephone 10. When the display unit 12 is moved along a vertical direction (z-axis direction) with respect to a display screen thereof while a user holds the appliance body 11, the move direction and the move amount of the display unit 12 are detected by the sensor 18, and information displayed on the display screen of the display unit 12 is enlarged or compressed in display magnification (ratio) defined in accordance with the sensed move amount.
