<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of downloading software from a higher-level device to an electronic device through a communication line, which, even when download is interrupted, can simplify a procedure to restart the download while maintaining security. <P>SOLUTION: Authenticity certificate information 15, which a card reader 2 obtains from a HOST computer 1, is stored in a nonvolatile memory 23. Download of the software 14 from the HOST computer 1 to the card reader 2 is executed. Authenticity verification information is obtained by calculation with respect to the downloaded software 14. This authenticity verification information is then compared with the authenticity certificate information 15 obtained from the HOST computer 1, and the downloaded software is started when the authenticity certificate information 15 matches the authenticity verification information. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
