<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that prints various types of latent images without heavily burdening the memory, and an image processing method. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is configured to deposit a color material on a medium on the basis of composite-image data, generated by compositing latent-image data with original-manuscript image data by an image compositing part 22, to output the medium. The image processing apparatus has: a latent-image data generating part 18 that stores the latent-image data and outputs the stored data as image data for composition to the image compositing part 22; and a composition-coordinate-signal generating part that outputs a composition coordinate signal 23a to the image compositing part 22 in order to composite the latent-image data, stored in the latent-image data generating part 18, on coordinates designated in the original-manuscript image data.
