PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive composition for lubricating oil that is easily prepared, has no adverse effect, such as swelling of a rubber seal, and also comprises a metal salt of a phosphorus-containing compound excellent in storage stability. SOLUTION: The additive composition for lubricating oil contains 10-90 mass% of a metal salt of a phosphorus-containing compound represented by general formula (1) based on the total amount of the composition, in a hydrocarbon-based solvent selected from mineral oils, hydrocarbon-based synthetic oils, and mixtures thereof having kinematic viscosity at 100°C of 0.5-4.5 mm<SP>2</SP>/s, %C<SB>A</SB>of 3 or less, and a sulfur content of 0.05 mass% or less. Wherein, X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>are each an oxygen or sulfur atom; R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, and R<SP>4</SP>are each independently a 3-12C straight chain alkyl group with an average carbon number of 5 or more; and M is a divalent metal atom.
