PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary damper which automatically adjusts a braking force, based on load change, and is equipped with a structure hard to break. SOLUTION: The rotary damper is equipped with: control clearances 11 and 12 communicating a high-pressure side pressure chamber and low-pressure side pressure chamber which are formed between a cylindrical casing 1 and rotor 2 equipped with a blade section 6; and thrust chamber 13 drawing high-pressure side pressure. A magnitude of the control clearances 11 and 12 is controlled by moving the rotor 2, based on a pressure difference between a pressure chamber side pressure bearing surface and thrust chamber side pressure bearing surface of a flange 9 integrally prepared with the rotor 2.
