PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system capable of guidance on an optimal route to a destination from a current position even when a vehicle is in a state parking on a road. SOLUTION: The navigation system mounted to the vehicle and having a route search means (S5) for searching for a route to the destination to be traveled by the vehicle includes: a start determination means (S1) for determining whether the vehicle is in a state immediately after its start or not; a vehicle position determination means (S2) for determining whether the vehicle is on a road or not; and a stopping determination means (S3) for determining whether the vehicle is stopping. In the case that the start determination means (S1) has determined that the vehicle is in a state immediately after its start, that the vehicle position determination means (S2) has determined that the vehicle is on a road, and that the stopping determination means (S3) has determined that the vehicle is stopping, the route search means (S5) searches for a route to the destination without considering the traveling direction of the vehicle.
