PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a method for determining accelerations as much as possible. SOLUTION: In a method for determining accelerations, a road segment (i) is determined from map data based on a current position (XGPS); a plurality of acceleration values (a(t), a1, a2) and/or a plurality of velocity values (v(t), v1, v2) is/are measured within the road segment (i); stored parameters (μ<SB>n</SB>,Σ<SB>n</SB>,σ<SB>n</SB>) of a probability distribution of acceleration within the road segment (i) are read out of a memory, the stored parameters (μ<SB>n</SB>,Σ<SB>n</SB>,σ<SB>n</SB>) being associated with the road segment (i); new parameters (μ<SB>n+1</SB>,Σ<SB>n+1</SB>,σ<SB>n+1</SB>) of the probability distribution of acceleration within the road segment (i) are calculated from the read-out parameters (μ<SB>n</SB>,Σ<SB>n</SB>,σ<SB>n</SB>) and from at least one of the plurality of acceleration values (a(t), a1, a2) and the plurality of velocity values (v(t), v1, v2); and the new parameters (μ<SB>n+1</SB>,Σ<SB>n+1</SB>,σ<SB>n+1</SB>) of the probability distribution are stored.
