The method involves detecting a feature (2.1) e.g. radio frequency identification chip, of a data carrier (2) e.g. compact disk or DVD, and performing retrieval of local and external data sources (1.3, 1.5) different from the data carrier based on the feature of the data carrier. Data on the data sources are determined. Local stored data (LD) from the local source and/or external data (ED) from the external source are read as the data to be shown based on the feature, and a virtual data set (VDS) is produced and output. The virtual data set is stored for processing on the local data source. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for playback of data in a vehicle.
