PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present suitable preview information to a user according to a degree of progress of scan processing.

SOLUTION: A CPU in an image forming apparatus executes a program which includes: a step (S10110) for displaying a preview in a first virtual mode before setting a document (NO in S10080) in an operation mode requiring scanning (YES in S10070); a step (S10120) for displaying the preview in a second virtual mode by using dummy data before scanning after setting the document (YES in S10080 and NO in S10100); and a step (S10130) for displaying the preview in a scan-in mode by using scanning data after the scanning (YES in S10100).
