PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging element and an image input device, wherein an appropriate image can be formed by receiving light from visible light to infrared light. SOLUTION: A first photodiode 4 performs photoelectric conversion on visible light, and a second photodiode 4' performs photoelectric conversion on infrared light passing through the first photodiode 4. Even if there are much visible light components, saturation of pixels of the second photodiode 4' is suppressed and even if there are much infrared light components, saturation of pixels of the first photodiode 4 is suppressed. The visible light, on which photoelectric conversion is performed by the first photodiode 4, can be separated for each color component using a filter F having a sharp cutoff property, thereby forming a high-quality RGB image. An infrared light image having a resolution equal to that of an infrared light dedicated sensor can be formed using infrared light on which photoelectric conversion is performed by the overall second photodiode 4'. The first photodiode 4 and the second photodiode 4' are also capable of performing exposure control separately. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
