INTRAMEDULLARY DEVICE AND METHOD OF USE

A system for introducing longitudinally in the bone of a patient including a guide tube, a cutter assembly and an intramedullary rod is disclosed. The guide tube has a central passageway with plural longitudinally extending slots for location in a longitudinal bore in the bone. The cutter assembly includes a body member having plural outwardly extending blades arranged to be moved along the guide tube's central passageway with the blades extending through the slots to form respective longitudinal grooves in the bone. The intramedullary rod has plural longitudinally- extending, outwardly-projecting ribs for disposition within the guide tube's central passageway. The ribs extend through respective slots in the guide tube for disposition within respective longitudinal grooves in the bore of the bone to thereby fix the intramedullary rod therein.
