797,233. Continuous tunnel kilns. LE FOUR INDUSTRIEL BELGE. March 27, 1956 [April 1, 1955; Aug. 10, 1955], No. 9488/56. Class 51 (2). In a continuous tunnel kiln of the type in which the ware, e.g. glass bottles, is conveyed in countercurrent to a forced gaseous current, and heating zones are provided, each having a circulation current with its axis running transversely of the tunnel, each circulation current is induced by hot gases issuing from transverse combustion chambers 6 through narrow slots 7 disposed in front of a deflector 10. Side burners 5 are disposed at the ends of the combustion chambers 6, and slots 11 in transverse pipes 12 supplied by a fan with hot air from the cooling section of the kiln encourage re-circulation of the gases below a baffle 9. A fan near the outlet end of the tunnel, Fig. 2 (not shown), blows air therethrough in countercurrent to a conveyer 2. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), a series of burners extending across the tunnel discharge in front of the curved deflector 10, the pipe 12 being disposed behind said burners. A final modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), has the burners mounted in a block of masonry in an inverted U-shaped girder which may be withdrawn through the side wall of the tunnel. |
