PURPOSE: A composition containing capsaicin for preventing and treating epilepsy is provided to maintain antioxidation, anti-inflamamtion, and anti-apoptosis. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating epilepsy contains capsaicin as an active ingredient. The capsaicin is N-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzyl)-8-methyl-trans-6-nonenamide(C_18H_27NO_3) of chemical formula 1 and is isolated from Capsicum frutescens. A food composition for preventing and treating epilepsy contains capsaicin as an active ingredient.
