A manufacturing control system comprises a vision system 20 for viewing operations within a manufacturing area 24 and for producing vision data representing the viewed operations; A systems control 26 analyzes the vision data 28 and controls at least two control functions related to the manufacturing operations based on the analyzed vision data. Preferably the control functions include any combination of quality control 56, safety control 54, logistics 52 and automation control 50 functions. Additionally simulation software 62 may be used to simulate in 3-D the manufacturing area based on the vision data. The vision data being produced by cameras having pan, tilt and zoom functions. The system also including a laser means 44 for projecting data onto objects 22 to be viewed by the vision system. Preferably the manufacturing operations are for the assembly of aircraft (fig.3), marine or automotive industry. |
