Dye composition (I) comprises: one or more hair dye; and at least one quaternary phosphonium hydroxide (A) in a medium. R1-R4 : 1-10C alkyl optionally substituted by one or more halo, preferably Cl, Br or I, OH, 1-4C alkoxy or carboxylic acid.
