The present disclosure relates to a method for assessing if a patient is affected with a lung cancer. The method includes analyzing the presence and amount of &bgr;-citronellol contained in the urine excreted from the patient and determining if the presence and amount of &bgr;-citronellol is indicative of lung cancer.
