Class 103(4) The compartments of a railway carriage are composed of prefabricated components fully equipped, which can be separately removed from the carriage. Each component may consist of a complete compartment or of two halves of adjacent compartments, the component being removable through the roof or through an end of the body of the carriage. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, a compartment 2 complete with seats 7, luggage racks 8, table 9 and windows 10, 11 is introduced from above into the body of the railway carriage, for which purpose the roof of the carriage is removable. Apertures are provided in the body of the carriage which are opposite the windows when the compartment is in position. A corridor 12 is at the side of the carriage and contains a pivoted floor under which are disposed water pipes, heating pipes &c. In the construction shown in Fig. 6, the carriage roof has portions which are removable to permit entry of components 22, each of which consists of two halves of neighbouring compartments. Each component after being lowered into the carriage is displaced sideways to a position beneath a fixed part 24 of the roof. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7, the compartment 42, complete with windows &c. is inserted endwise into the body of the carriage. This mode of entry is also used in the case of a component consisting of two half compartments.
