A method and apparatus for a random access in a relay system are provided in the present invention. The method includes: a relay node (RN) determines whether a random access is triggered (501), if the random access is triggered, said RN performs the random access by using a non-backhaul link sub-frame (502). In the present invention, if a random access of a RN working in a base station state is triggered, said RN can perform the random access by using some or all of non-backhaul link sub-frame resources, that is, the RN can perform the random access by using sub-frames of a Un interface. The method can reduce the time delay for performing the random access of the RN working as a base station and improve the sense of a user.
