PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect distance to a user with high accuracy, based on a captured image obtained by imaging the user. SOLUTION: An LED 21a irradiates a subject with light having a first wavelength; an LED 21b applies light having a second wavelength differing from the first wavelength to the subject; a camera 22 images the subject irradiated with the light having the first wavelength to generate a first captured image and images the subject irradiated with the light having the second wavelength to generate a second captured image; a binarization unit 43 detects a skin region of the subject, based on the first and second captured images; and a coordinates detection unit 44 calculates distance to the subject, based on a differential absolute value of luminance values of the corresponding pixels in the skin region on the first and second captured images. The present invention can be applied to, for example, computers, or the like for calculating the distance to the user from the captured images obtained by imaging the user.
