PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide communication equipment which can automatically set a setup about the obtaining of originator information in accordance with a specification difference of the equipment. SOLUTION: An MFC 1 is connected to a telephone line 70 having a number display service, and an external telephone 50 is also connected. A CPU 30 generates a false start signal having a waveform similar to an information receiving terminal start signal that comes from the telephone line 70, and transmits the false start signal to the external telephone 50. The CPU 30 investigates whether the external telephone 50 is closed in response to the false start signal or which timing the external telephone 50 is closed at in response to the false start signal, and sets and stores the number of times of response execution triggers on the basis of an investigation result. The CPU 30 counts the number of times of receiving the information receiving terminal start signal. The CPU 30 responds to the information receiving terminal start signal in response to the matter that the number of receiving times reaches the number of times of response execution triggers to obtain originator information.
