PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outdoor unit for a compact air conditioner of high energy efficiency. SOLUTION: In this outdoor unit 10 for the air conditioner including compressors 30A, 30B disposed on a bottom plate 12 of a housing 11, a heat exchanger 21 designed to be substantially U-shaped in section and disposed on the bottom plate 12 along three surfaces of a back surface side and both side surface sides of the housing 11, and an air blower 22 disposed above the heat exchanger 21. The heat exchanger 21 is provided with a partitioning plate 38 designed so that a length L1 in a depth direction located at both side surface sides of the housing 11 is longer than a length L2 in a width direction located at the back surface side of the housing 11 to vertically partition the inside of the housing 11 into a heat exchange chamber 39 having the heat exchanger 21 and a machine chamber 40 having the compressors 30A, 30B, and both ends of the partition plate 38 are respectively fixed to tube plates 21A of the heat exchanger 21.
