The device has a float (6) led along vertical movement for an upwardly pointing outflow hole (4). An overlay sealing closure unit is provided for closing/locking the outflow hole. The float has a drawing recess at the top face. Lift of the float is measured such that a light liquid e.g. water, oil and petrol, is penetrated through the drawing recess while reaching a given maximum layer thickness into a lower side facing the top face, so that the float is sunk by weight increase and sealed to the outflow hole by the closure unit. The float is fed in a cage or a pipe or at guide bars (5). An independent claim is also included for a light media separator comprising a chamber for separation of a light/heavy liquid mixture supplied by an inlet pipe.
