<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system capable of restraining the in-plane light intensity distribution in a region to be illuminated from becoming inhomogeneous and restraining the quality of a projected image from degrading, even if the light emission of any light source device of a pair of light source devices becomes weak or goes out. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system includes a first light source device 10 and second light source device 20 arranged substantially facing each other, a photosynthesis section 30 that synthesizes light emitted from these light source devices and emits it toward a predetermined direction, and a lens integrator optical system. The photosynthesis section 30 includes a first polarization/separation/synthesis section 40 having a first polarization/separation/synthesis surface 48, a second polarization/separation/synthesis section 50 having a second polarization/separation/synthesis surface 58, a reflecting mirror 62, and a λ/4 plate 64. The light emitted from the first light source device 10 and the light emitted from the second light source device 20 enter a substantially the same region of a first lens array. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
