PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a lockup clutch. SOLUTION: A clutch fastening time Ta and a lockup control time Tb are set. Based on a turbine speed Nt1 at the start of control, a turbine speed Nt2 after the lapse of the lockup control time Tb is set. A rotating speed difference ΔNb is added to the turbine speed Nt2 to set an engine speed Ne2 after the lapse of the lockup control time Tb. Based on the engine speed Ne2 and the engine speed Ne1 at the start of control, a target value of engine speed Ne is set, and the fastening force of the lockup clutch is controlled according to this target value. The rotating speed difference ΔNb is subtracted from an engine speed Ne3 after the lapse of the clutch fastening time Ta to set a turbine speed Nt3 after the lapse of the clutch fastening time Ta. Based on the turbine speeds Nt1-Nt3, a target value of turbine speed Nt is set, and a transmission mechanism is controlled according to this target value. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
