The method involves receiving radio signals from a communication unit i.e. transponder (3), and evaluating the signal strength of the radio signals by a detector (5), where the detector is arranged in a motor vehicle (1). The distance to a road user e.g. pedestrian (4), is determined based on the signals emitted from the communication unit. The environmental condition of the motor vehicle is evaluated by a digital card. The light distribution of a headlight (2) e.g. fog headlight, of the vehicle is adjusted based on the evaluation result of radio signal and the environmental condition. An independent claim is also included for a device for adjusting light distribution of a headlight of a motor vehicle.
