<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which includes a plurality of reading units, each of the reading units being effectively used. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading unit 2 of an MFP 100 includes an image sensor 15 in a main body part 10, and an image sensor 25 in an ADF 20 and has a configuration in which both sides of an original can be read in one pass. Further, the MFP 100, while reading is performed by using one image sensor, can instruct reading performed by using the other image sensor.
