<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an "audio information retrieval device" that, when a user listens to a musical piece or the like using data of another audio device linked to an audio device, enables the user to easily and rapidly retrieve a desired item from a large number of audio data existing in the other audio device. <P>SOLUTION: When the audio device is linked to an external audio device, and the user listens to the musical piece using much audio data of an external audio device, for example when a desired artist is selected from a lot of artists, a plurality of tabs are prepared on the audio device side in alphabetical order, for example. For example, in retrieval of the forward direction, the tabs are selected in the order from the tab having the item presently displayed by a tab selecting part. When the processing of taking the item belonging to the selected tab from the external audio device is performed on the selected tab, and it is detected that the item does not exist, the next tab is selected and retrieval is performed.
