PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly determine whether excessive light amount incomes even when a D-phase period followed by a P-phase period is set as an A/D conversion operation by CDS. SOLUTION: Whether a signal level is on a white level side or on a black level side in an AZ period where an input of a comparator of a CDS circuit is in the same potential during a D-phase period is determined, and the result is held as a signal level determination result. In addition, at the end of counting during a P-phase period, whether the counting value is equal to or less than a constant is determined, and the result is held as a counting value determination result. Further, when the signal level determination result indicates the white level, the presence of excessive incident light is determined regardless of the counting value determination result. Alternatively, when the signal level determination result indicates the black level, the presence of excessive incident light amount is determined when the counting value is equal to or more than a constant, and the absence of excessive incident light is determined when the counting value is equal to or less than the constant.
