PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved 8-node hexahedral element constituted to reduce shearing locking in a finite element method.
SOLUTION: Each scale factor based on an aspect ratio is introduced to modify a partial derivative of an isoparametric shape function of each hexahedral element with respect to isoparametric dimensions, according to one aspect. The modified derivatives are used for calculating a Jacobian matrix, thereby the rate-of-strain. The scale factor is configured to bring no changes for a perfect cubic solid element, but to bring a significant change for the element having a poor aspect ratio. Off-diagonal components in a local Jacobian matrix are directly modified by canceling terms related to a pseudo shear deformation mode. This measure completely alleviates the shear locking effect even for perfectly shaped elements, according to another aspect.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
|
