PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce drive noise by reducing the number of times of driving start and stopping in a camera shake correcting operation of a camera shake correcting device. SOLUTION: In motion picture taking in which noise decreasing performance of the camera shake correcting device is desired, a sampling period Tb for reading a displacement signal from a gyro IC, and a present position detecting period Ts for detecting the present position of a lens unit. are made to be longer than a sampling period Ta and a present position detecting period Tk in still picture taking, respectively. Thus, bending points on a route line of the present position LN in which drive noise is easily generated from the camera shake correcting device, are remarkably reduced, which reduces the drive noise.
