PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire sidewall which reduces foreign substances adhering to a tire when the tire is used, and is also excellent in resistance to fatigue, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the rubber composition for the tire sidewall which is prepared by formulating 5 to 15 pts.mass ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, which has a molecular weight of 2,000,000 to 5,500,000, to 100 pts.mass diene system rubber, which contains not less than 50 pts.mass vinyl/cis-butadiene rubber.
