<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material with which a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having the excellent initial coulomb efficiency can be produced, and to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery employing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The positive electrode for lithium secondary battery uses a mixed active material as the positive electrode active material for lithium secondary battery, the mixed active material being obtained by mixing a compound A composed of lithium manganese iron phosphate represented by general formula of LiMn<SB>x</SB>Fe<SB>(1-x)</SB>PO<SB>4</SB>(0.5<x<1) and a compound B composed of a lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt composite oxide represented by general formula of LiNi<SB>(1-y)/2</SB>Mn<SB>(1-y)/2</SB>Co<SB>y</SB>O<SB>2</SB>(0≤y≤0.67).
