<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane light source device capable of preventing excessive brightness in the vicinity of a light source without requiring a complicated design and equalizing brightness. <P>SOLUTION: The plane light source device includes a reflection sheet 11, a hollow section 12 located at an upper part of the reflection sheet 11, a light source 13 arranged on at least one end section of the hollow section 12, and an optical sheet 15 arranged at an upper part of the hollow section 12.
