PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive applicator capable of optimally controlling the coating width (area) and the amount of an adhesive applied to a recording material. SOLUTION: When applying the adhesive containing a material generating viscosity by heat or pressure to the tip of the back of a delay recording material to transfer toner images in its moving direction by using an adhesive application member before the recording material reaches the nip of a fixing material and a pressing piece, the adhesive applicator makes the recording material protrude by a predetermined length from a resist roller by controlling the revolution of the resist roller on the path to carry the recording material according to at least one of the concentration of the toner of the toner image, the front marginal length of the recording material, and the kind of the recording material, and applies the predetermined amount of the adhesive to the part of the recording material which projects from the resist roller by controlling the movement of the adhesive application member.
