PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate paper conveyance control in the upstream of a nip, while uniforming the fixing quality of an image in paper. SOLUTION: A fixing device includes a fixing roller, a pressure roller, a control circuit, a temperature sensor for detecting the surface temperature of the pressure roller, and a paper sensor that is arranged at the upstream position to the nip in paper conveyance and detects presence of paper at the upstream position. The control circuit detects, using the paper sensor, that the rear end of paper during passing through the nip finishes passing through the upstream position. Then, when the temperature detected by the temperature sensor is lower than an allowable temperature range, the control circuit reduces the rotation speed of the pressure roller and returns the rotation speed after the paper finishes passing through the nip.
